Can you tell me how accurate clearTrend can be, since the current recession is unprecedented, worldwide, and with the Fed bond buying policy. I have a 401K that I would like try and preserve more capital.
Dale – Thanks for your comment. You’re right when you say that we continue to be in unprecedented territory. So when we built clearTREND, we wanted to be able to measure the predictability of the recommendations it generated. We did so in a couple of ways, both of which you can find in the security detail page for any ticker you might be tracking: First, we calculate the percentage of profitable versus unprofitable recommendations made over any period of time you choose. We’ve found this to be really helpful in determining which securities may be the best candidates to use, and to prepare users for the inevitability that markets can sometime move against any investor. Second, we calculate the best and worst recommendation made, also over any period of time you might select. Both of these features are shown on the main security detail page. Lastly, we calculate the maximum draw-down for both clearTREND and for a passive “buy & hold” strategy (which can be found in the pop-out workspace area in the upper right corner of the security detail page). We wanted to show this so that users can really see what the risks of investing are, and how clearTREND can potentially help to manage (but not eliminate) those risks. Hope this helps!
